2003-09-02
SEOUL, South Korea, August 27, 2003 LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., one of the leading innovators of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, today announced that many of its TFT-LCD panels, including its 42-inch wide TFT-LCD panel the world's first LCD of this size to begin mass production as well as a 52-inch wide TFT-LCD prototype, will be demonstrated at Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) 2003. Both of the joint venture's parent companies LG Electronics and Royal Philips Electronics will be showcasing LCD TVs leveraging LG.Philips LCD's technology. Specifically, LG Electronics will be showcasing a 42-inch TV and a 52-inch prototype, among others, while Philips will be showing a 42-inch TV, along with various others.
LG.Philips LCD's wide-format ('W' for 16:10 or 16:9 wide-aspect ratio displays) LCDs offer great horizontal viewing displays that support modern video devices such as HDTVs, digital TVs (DTVs) and DVDs.
LG.Philips LCD's TFT-LCDs for TVs feature the company's unique Super-In-Plane-Switching (S-IPS) technology enabling a rich natural-picture performance, including a wide LCD viewing angle of 176 degrees and superior color fidelity. In addition, S-IPS allows for a high and stable contrast ratio and a faster response time in conjunction with LG.Philips LCD's Over Driving Circuit (ODC) technology, as compared to other TFT-LCDs currently on the market. An impressive 12 ms gray-to-gray response time prevents smearing and allows for true motion picture quality.
IFA will be held August 29 - September 3 in Berlin, Germany at the Messe Berlin.
