Resource Circulation

Management Direction

LG Display strengthens resource circulation management as one of the core areas of ESG management for a sustainable future. The company sets and pursues management directions focusing on four areas: water resources, waste, energy, and raw materials.

Water Resources

LG Display recognizes the importance of water resources' impact on the environment and society. We are conducting various activities to reduce water consumption and increase reuse. In particular, with a target of 87% water reuse by 2030, we are operating an internal wastewater reuse system and expanding external sewage reuse facilities. In addition, each factory discharges wastewater in compliance with legal standards. Going forward, we will continue to fulfill our role as a leading company in water management through environmentally friendly water resource management.

Waste

LG Display minimizes the negative impact of its business activities on the environment through systematic waste classification, disposal, and management. We reduce waste generation at the source and improve all process flows from product design and manufacturing to disposal. In addition, we are promoting activities such as obtaining recycling certification and discovering waste recycling technologies and companies to increase the waste recycling rate. Furthermore, LG Display is continuously striving to reduce waste generation and expand recycling through tasks such as expanding the reuse of product packaging materials and using recycled raw materials. Going forward, we will continue to promote various activities with the goal of achieving 100% recycling certified by Zero Waste To Landfill (ZWTL) by 2030.

Energy

LG Display is promoting fundamental reductions in energy consumption through company-wide energy conservation activities. We are promoting company-wide energy management from facility operations to production stages, and are continuously reducing energy consumption through the introduction of high-efficiency equipment, process optimization, and expanded use of renewable energy.

Raw Materials

LG Display has developed and applied technology to recycle OLED organic materials and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) cleaning solution that were previously disposed of after use. We have developed appropriate separation and purification technologies based on the characteristics of the recovered waste and is efficiently recycling. Currently, we are securing eco-friendly packaging technology using recycled raw materials (PCR1) materials) and clean raw materials (bio-based materials) through its “recycled and clean” packaging component technology. We are also making various efforts to secure a technological advantage over competitors by prioritizing the development of eco-friendly packaging components.

Additionally, we contribute to expanding resource circulation by reusing packaging components such as cushioning materials used to prevent product damage or deformation during panel shipment. To maximize resource utilization and increase reuse rates for packaging components, we have designed them to be reusable multiple times and systematized the entire process from collection to cleaning, inspection, and reuse. Furthermore, we have applied the packaging component reuse system to all high-value-added products shipped from domestic and overseas factories.
