Tandem WOLED
Tandem WOLED is a technology that combines LG Display’s proprietary white (W) light source with a tandem structure in which the organic emission layers of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) elements are vertically stacked.
By spreading the energy applied to the OLED elements, this technology delivers higher brightness, a longer lifespan, and enhanced durability compared to conventional single-layer structures. It is widely used in large-sized OLED TVs and monitors.
In 2013, LG Display became the world’s first company to successfully mass-produce large-sized OLED TV panels, established the foundation for Tandem WOLED technology. Since then, LG Display has continuously enhanced the performance of Tandem WOLED through ongoing technological innovation. With Tandem WOLED, users can experience an advanced display technology that delivers high brightness, excellent color reproduction, and fast response times simultaneously.

The Values of Tandem WOLED Characteristics

This technology improves the existing three-layer structure (Blue, Yellow, Blue) by separating the yellow (Y) layer into red (R) and blue (B), resulting in a four-layer structure (RBGB) composed of pure red (R), green (G), and blue (B) layers. As a result, displays achieve higher brightness, more vivid color expression, and reduced power consumption.

External light entering the screen can be reflected inside the display, resulting in degraded image quality. This effect becomes more pronounced in bright environments. To address this, LG Display applies ultra-low reflection technology (POL + internal components) to minimize internal light reflection to near-zero levels. As a result, the display delivers perfect blacks and vivid colors without image degradation, even in brightly lit indoor environments.

With a stripe sub-pixel structure utilizing four sub-pixels (R, G, B, and W), this configuration increases both HDR and SDR brightness to deliver a brighter screen, making it suitable for gaming and multimedia display products.

With a stripe sub-pixel structure utilizing three sub-pixels (R, G, and B), this configuration enhances legibility and color performance, making it ideal for gaming, office, and professional display products.
