LG.Philips LCD sets new TFT-LCD industry record

SEOUL, South Korea, July 29, 2003-LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd, one of the leading innovators of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, today announced that it has reached a major milestone with an accumulated production and shipment of 10 million large TFT-LCDs (10-inches and above) this year, in record time (according to DisplaySearch and other industry analysts). The previous record time for the production and shipments of 10-million large units in the TFT-LCD industry was set last year at 11 months. Breaking this record, LG.Philips LCD hit the 10-million unit mark in under seven months this year.
LG.Philips LCD attributes this success to the early ramp up and operation of its two fifth-generation production lines, "P4", the world's first Gen. 5 factory, which began commercial production in March 2002, and the world's third Gen. 5 factory, "P5",which came fully online commercially in May 2003. Through early stabilization of its fifth-generation operations, the company was able to achieve more than 80 percent production yield rates-signaling the company's manufacturing efficiencies and allowing this shipment and production milestone to set an industry record.
