LG.Philips LCD Demonstrates Latest Display Technologies At LCD/PDP International 2001

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, October 29, 2001 - LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, will showcase its broad portfolio of thin-film transistor (TFT)-LCD products at LCD/PDP International this week at the Pacifico Yokahama Exhibition Hall in Yokahama City, Japan.
According to Bruce Berkoff, executive vice president of marketing for LG.Philips LCD, the products demonstrated at LCD/PDP International are just a sampling of the company''s broad portfolio of LCD display offerings aimed at multiple markets. "Combined LCD advantages - chiefly, slim, sleek form factors, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness, along with stellar resolution?are driving their rapid gain in popularity over traditional
display technologies, such as CRTs. LG.Philips LCD is committed to accommodating this rising demand, and, with
our technology leadership and substantial manufacturing capabilities, we''re well-poised to capitalize on the expanding
market potential of LCDs," noted Berkoff.
The following products are among the display modules LG.Philips LCD will feature at the show:
- 17W for Desktop Monitors and PCTVs
LG.Philips LCD''s new 17W display ("W" for 16:10 or 16:9 wide-aspect ratio) is designed for new wide monitor formats, all-in-one PCs, and personal computer TV (PCTV) applications. The wide-format display offers 1280 x 768 resolution, a color saturation of 65 percent, brightness of 400cd/m2, and a fast response time of 25ms. Furthermore, it is extremely thin (16.2 mm) and weighs only 19 grams. Volume production of the 17W will begin by late this December. In addition, LG.Philips LCD will be also be demonstrating the 23W, a wide UXGA display for desktop
monitors and HDTVs.
- 30W for HDTVs
In an effort to meet the OEM demands for standardized LCD sizes, LG.Philips LCD will also demonstrate the 30W TFT-LCD for today''s HDTV market. The 30W boasts an impressive, wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, a brightness of 450 cd/㎡, and a resolution of 1280 x 768. The 30W provides better clarity by removing most of the
color-spreading phenomenon usually associated with LCDs and moving pictures. In addition to its large screen size and slim form factor (46 mm), this display also offers a high contrast ratio of 450:1 and an aspect ratio of 16:9.6.
- 20.1-inch UXGA [LM201U1] for High-end Desktop Monitors
Developed in anticipation of growing demand for higher resolution and larger screens, LG.Philips LCD has unveiled a 20.1-inch UXGA LCD desktop module. The viewable area of the 20.1-inch display is equivalent to that of a 23-inch CRT TV and supports 16.7 million colors. The 1.9-mega-pixel module is ideal for serving the needs of workstation users and web designers.
- 18.1-inch [LM181E05] for Desktop Monitors
Utilizing LG.Philips LCD''s proprietary side-mounting technology, the LM181E05 is a unique narrow-bezeled SXGA TFT-LCD, ideal for today''s desktop monitor applications. Featuring a high luminance of 250 cd/m2, this compact and extremely slim (27 mm) display boasts a contrast ratio of 350:1, 1280 x 1024 resolution and a color saturation of 65 percent.
- 15-inch [LS150X02] for Desktop Monitors and TVs
The LS150X02 is a smart panel display for the monitor and TV market. One of the most advanced displays available, the LS150X02 includes the scaler IC, the interface board and the inverter?simplifying the integration process for OEMs. Other advantages of the LS150X02 include the removed power circuitry, integrated timing controller of panel (TCON) and both digital and analog capabilities. The LS150X02 also features a resolution of 1024 x 768 and a contrast ratio of 300:1.
- 15.1-inch [LC151X01] for LCD TVs
LG.Philips LCD''s 15.1-inch TFT-LCD display, the LC151X01, is designed for portable and mountable LCD TV applications. With 1024 x 768 resolution, brightness of 400 cd/m2 and a fast response time of 25 ms, this display offers the performance and resolution comparable to that of its larger-sized counterparts. The
LC151X01 also features an extremely slim design of 18 mm in thickness and weighs only 1800 grams.
Additionally, the display offers a contrast ratio of 350:1 and an aspect ratio of 4:3, while delivering a color saturation of 65 percent.
- 15.1-inch [LP150X04] for Notebook PCs
The LP150X04 is a 15.1-inch XGA LCD for notebook PCs, one of the larger display sizes available for portable applications. Featuring a high resolution of 1024 x 768, the LP150X04 is lightweight, weighing only 600 grams.
The display has a high luminance of 200cd/m2 and is extremely thin (6.5 mm).
