LG.Philips LCD Breaks 4 Million Unit Sales Mark with 15.1-inch TFT-LCD for Monitors

2001-10-25

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, October 24, 2001 - Shattering its own industry own record, LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, today announced it has sold its 4-millionth 15.1-inch TFT-LCD for use in desktop monitor applications since they started shipping in December 1997. With this achievement, LG.Philips LCD becomes the first TFT-LCD company ever to sell more than 4 million units of a single TFT-LCD product, further solidifying its position as the industry's leading supplier of TFT-LCDs for the desktop monitor market.

"This milestone embodies LG.Philips LCD's position as the leading monitor module supplier. Furthermore, it signals the rapidly growing acceptance of LCDs for the PC monitor market and the 15.1-inch as the preferred size. We believe our success in this market segment can be attributed to a number of factors including our ability to deliver best-in-class display solutions and our ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction," noted Bruce Berkoff, LG.Philips LCD's executive vice president of marketing.

The 15.1-inch TFT-LCD is now a mainstream-model in the LCD monitor market. The 15.1-inch TFT-LCD, which is equivalent in actual screen size to that of a 17-inch CRT monitor, affords numerous advantages including less power consumption, lower electromagnetic emissions, sleek and lightweight designs, as well as being significantly thinner (one-fifth or less the thickness of traditional CRT monitors).
