LG.Philips LCD Demonstrates Latest Display Technologies During Fall COMDEX 2001
2001-11-12
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, November 8, 2001 ― LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, will showcase its broad portfolio of thin-film transistor (TFT)-LCD products for notebook PC, desktop monitor, LCD TV and applications next week during Fall COMDEX 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
“LCD product price points are at a historic all-time low,” stated Bruce Berkoff, LG.Philips LCD’s executive vice president of marketing. “What this ultimately means to consumers is: inexpensive, yet performance-packed products, for today’s personal and business needs that also provide you a better product than a CRT: less power, weight, space, eye strain, etc., and great new industrial designs. In fact, with demand rising so quickly, we’ll probably see end user prices rise by early next year.”
LG.Philips LCD will be featuring the following display modules at the show:
20.1-inch, UXGA, [LM201U1] for High-end Desktop Monitors
Developed in anticipation of the growing demand for higher resolution and larger screens, LG.Philips LCD has created a 20.1-inch UXGA (1600X1200) LCD desktop module. The viewable area of the 20.1-inch display is equivalent to that of a 23-inch CRT TV and supports 16.7 million colors. The 1.9-mega-pixel module is ideal for serving the needs of workstation users and web designers.
18.1-inch, SXGA, [LM181E05] for Desktop Monitors
Utilizing LG.Philips LCD’s proprietary side-mounting technology, the LM181E05 is a unique, narrow-bezeled SXGA (1280 x 1024) TFT-LCD―ideal for today’s desktop-monitor applications. Featuring a high luminance of 250 cd/㎡, this compact and extremely slim (27 mm) display boasts a contrast ratio of 350:1 and a color saturation of 62 percent.
15.1-inch, XGA, [LC151X01] for LCD TVs
LG.Philips LCD’s LC151X01 is a 15.1-inch TFT-LCD display designed for portable and mountable LCD TV applications. With 1024 x 768 (XGA) resolution, brightness of 400 cd/㎡ and a fast response time of 25 ms, this display offers performance and resolution comparable to that of larger-sized competitive offerings. Weighing only 1,800 grams, the LC151X01 features an extremely slim, 18-mm design and offers a contrast ratio of 350:1 and an aspect ratio of 4:3, with 65-percent color saturation. In addition to the LC151X01, LG.Philips LCD will also be demonstrating the 20.1-inch LC201V1 for LCD TVs.
17W, WXGA, for Desktop Monitors and PCTVs
LG.Philips LCD’s new 17W display (“W” denotes 16:10 or 16:9 “wide”-aspect ratio) is designed for new wide-monitor formats, all-in-one PCs and personal-computer TV (PCTV) applications. This wide-format display offers 1280 x 768 resolution, 65-percent color saturation, 400cd/㎡ brightness and a fast response time of 25 ms. Furthermore, it is extremely thin (16.2 mm) and weighs only 1,900 grams. Volume production of the 17W is scheduled to begin by late December.
30W, WXGA, for HDTVs
In an effort to meet the OEM demands for standardized LCD sizes, LG.Philips LCD will also demonstrate the 30W TFT-LCD for today’s HDTV market. The 30W boasts an impressive, wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, brightness of 450 cd/㎡ and resolution of 1280 x 768. The 30W provides better clarity than other currently available HDTV solutions by removing most of the color-spreading phenomenon usually associated with LCDs and moving pictures. In addition to its large screen size and slim form factor (46 mm), this display also offers a high contrast ratio (450:1) and aspect ratio of 16:9.6.
15-inch, XGA, [LP150X04] for Notebook PCs
The LP150X04 is a 15-inch XGA LCD for notebook PCs, one of the larger display sizes available for portable applications. Featuring a high resolution of 1024 x 768 (XGA), the LP150X04 is lightweight, weighing only 600 grams. The display has a high luminance of 200 cd/㎡ and is extremely thin (6.5 mm). The obvious benefits of a 15-inch XGA notebook should drive this type of screen into the mainstream notebook PC market over the next few years
10.4-inch, SVGA, [LP104S1] for Military and Industrial PCs
Debuting at Comdex, the LP104S1 is a 10.4-inch SVGA TFT-LCD module. The LP104S1 is ideal for a variety of business-related applications where longer battery life and the ability to adapt to various environments and lighting conditions are extremely critical, such as military and police field-activities. The LP104S1 transflective design combines the ability to operate in a transmissive or reflective mode―using reflective light in bright environments and utilizing transmissive backlighting in dark environments. This innovative design can increase the lifecycle of the display up to four-fold, and provides ease of use in both indoor and outdoor environments for notebook PC applications. The LP104S1 is based on LG.Philips LCD’s earlier 12.1-inch transflective LCD, the LC121S1, and features an improved luminance by 50 percent , a 3 percent color saturation increase and a 10 percent increase in viewing angle. In addition, the LP104S1 delivers an 800 x 600 (SVGA) resolution, weighs only 310 grams and has a contrast ratio of 40:1 when in transmissive mode, and 5:1 when in reflective mode. LG.Philips LCD will also be demonstrating the LC121S1 at Comdex.
