LG.Philips LCD offers comprehensive Range of TFT/LCD Screens

2001-08-03

Hanover, March 22, 2001: At CeBIT 2001, LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., the joint venture between Royal Philips Electronics and LG Electronics, presents its comprehensive range of TFT/LCD screens for TV and computer monitor applications. Ranging from 15.1 inch for a compact 4:3 TV use up to 29 inch for widescreen 16:10 HDTV, the company offers all important dimensions for today’s and tomorrow’s TV-LCD applications for both, analogue and digital TV. TFT/LCD screens from LG.Philips LCD are lightweight and extremely slim designs which can also be mounted on the wall. Although still at the beginning with a 0.12 % market share, the LCD-TV market is predicted to develop at a double digit annual rate during the next five years. So far, TFT/LCD TV screens were not able to deliver an equivalent brightness (500 nit) and response rate (15 ms) as a modern HDTV CRT tube. With its latest models, LG.Philips LCD has already surpassed the required brightness and has come close with regard to response rates.

The LM151X3 is suitable for small TV and monitor use. With its thickness of 16 mm it fits into almost every application. The TV screen features a resolution of 1,024x768 and an aspect ratio of 4:3. It can display 16.7 million colors with a luminance of 250 cd/㎡ at a contrast ratio of 300:1. It weighs only 1.5 kg.

The LC201V1 has been presented at last years Comdex as the next generation TFT/LCD screen and outperforms the 15.1 inch version in nearly all aspects. Its 20.1 inch screen weighs 3.2 kg with a thickness of 24 mm and a resolution of 640x480 with an aspect ratio of 4:3. Its luminance is as high as 450 cd/㎡ with a contrast ratio of 400:1. A quick response time is important for HDTV for not dragging colors or shadows across the screen. With the LC201V1, it has been reduced to 25 ms, thus coming close to traditional CRT tubes.

The mid/large-size, wide format LM220W1 comes with a thickness of 20 mm and a diagonal size of 22 inches. Its resolution is as high as 1,600x1,024 with a luminance of 200 cd/㎡ and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The contrast ratio of 250:1 as well as its viewing angle of 160 degrees makes it suitable for wide-screen TV and work station use at the same time.

The star of CeBIT 2001 will be the LC290W1, the largest wide format LCD-TV screen ever produced so far. Its excellent luminance of 450 cd/㎡ and high contrast ratio of 450:1, together with a viewing angle of 170 degrees and a response time of only 25 ms enables it perfectly for wide-screen HDTV.
