LG.Philips LCD Showcases State-Of-The-Art LCD Innovations at SID 2001

2001-08-03

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, June 4, 2001―LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., one of the world’s largest innovators of thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, will showcase its broad array of cutting-edge flat panel display products and technologies during the Society for Information Display Symposium (SID) 2001, held June 3-8 at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, Calif.

According to Bruce Berkoff, LG.Philips LCD’s executive vice president of marketing, the products featured at SID reinforce the company’s commitment to bringing ‘Technology You Can See’ to today’s consumers. “Innovation is at the core of our business strategy, and is a key factor in our continued success. The technologies we are showcasing at SID are evidence of this innovation at its best.”

Berkoff continued, “These products represent just a small sampling of LG.Philips LCD’s compelling display solutions, which are designed to drive the continued acceptance of our TFT-LCD displays as the visual interface for a myriad of business and consumer electronics products. By continuing to push the technology envelope, we not only ensure our continued leadership, but also help our customers maintain their competitiveness by opening up new market and product opportunities―ultimately providing the technology to create a display-centric environment.”

The following products are among the display modules LG.Philips LCD will feature at the show:

12.1-inch [LC121S1]
Signaling a major technology breakthrough, LG.Philips LCD’s LC121S1 is the world’s first transflective TFT-LCD designed for the notebook PC market. Featuring a unique design that combines both transmissive and reflective technologies, this display provides easy viewing in bright daylight conditions and consumes less power―enabling longer battery life for today’s mobile computing applications. Furthermore, this display delivers an 800 x 600 resolution, weighs only 420 grams, and has a contrast ratio of 30:1 when in transmissive mode and 5:1 when in reflective mode.

15.1-inch [LC151X01]
LG.Philips LCD’s 15.1-inch TFT-LCD display, the LC151X01, is designed for portable and mountable LCD TV applications. With 1024 x 768 resolution, brightness of 400 cd/㎡ and a fast response time of 25 ms, this display offers the performance and resolution comparable to its larger-sized counterparts. The LC151X01 also features a diagonal viewing angle of 15.1-inches, an extremely slim design of 18 mm in thickness and weighs only 1800 grams. Additionally, the display offers a contrast ratio of 350:1 and an aspect ratio of 4:3, while delivering a color saturation of 65 percent.

18.1-inch [LM181E05]
Utilizing LG.Philips LCD’s proprietary side-mounting technology, the LM181E05 is a unique narrow bezeled SXGA TFT-LCD, ideal for today’s desktop monitor applications. Featuring a high luminance of 250 cd/㎡, this compact and extremely slim 27 mm display boasts a contrast ratio of 300:1, 1280 x 1024 resolution and a color saturation of 65 percent.

20.1-inch [LC201V1]
Weighing in 3800 grams and only 24 mm thick, the LC201V1 is ideal for wall-mounted LCD TV applications. Offering the best color reproduction available among competitive LCD TVs, this display provides a viewable area equivalent to a 23-inch cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor and is able to receive both analog and digital broadcasting due to its fast response speed of 25 ms, which is extremely important for HDTV (high-definition television) applications. By not dragging colors or shadows across the screen, an enhanced and clearer picture is achieved for the ultimate user viewing experience.

22-inch [LM220W1]
LG.Philips LCD’s unparalleled 22-inch TFT-LCD desktop monitor display delivers both the size and viewing quality essential for applications where image quality and performance are paramount. Challenging top-of-the-line CRTs, this display delivers superior brightness, sharpness and contrast capabilities. The viewing angle has also been dramatically enhanced to ensure color integrity regardless of viewer position. The 22-inch diagonal wide-format monitor is only 20.3 mm thick, and features a resolution up to 1600 x 1024, luminance of 180 cd/㎡ and an aspect ratio of 16:10. Its contrast ratio of 250:1 and 160-degree viewing angle makes it suitable for both wide-screen TV and desktop monitor applications alike. Similar to other LG.Philips LCD displays, the LM220W1’s slim design requires less workspace, while the display itself consumes less power, emits less electromagnetic radiation and creates less eyestrain on the end-user.

29-inch [LC290W1]
Until now, there has been no large-area TFT-LCD for HDTVs that has been able to offer anything close to the brightness (450 cd/㎡) or fast response time (25 ms) of the thicker and heavier CRT monitor. Not only does LG.Philips LCD’s 29-inch display deliver a better response time than previous smaller, competitive offerings, but it also offers higher resolution and provides better clarity by removing most of the color-spreading phenomenon usually associated with moving pictures on LCDs. In addition to its large screen size and slim form factor (49mm), the LC290W1 also offers a high contrast ratio of 450:1, an aspect ratio of 16:9.6 and an impressive 170-
