LG.Philips LCD In CeBIT

2001-01-14

LG.Philips LCD is participating in CeBIT, one of the greatest international exhibitions.
The following is written in 「CeBIT News」

"LCD Joint Venture Hits the Halls”

Walking the CeBIT halls makes it is easy to believe that LCD monitors have taken over.

They have not yet. But the market is exploding as companies recognize the advantages of LCD displays over CRTs.
Space saving, low power consumption and low heat emission make the monitors ideal for display purposes at an exhibition like CeBIT.

More manufacturers are entering the market some unknown, some familiar. One powerful new force goes under the name of LG.Philips LCD, a joint venture company established last July.

The company’s first outing at CeBIT is intended to boost brand recognition and recruit more resellers and distributors.

Hyoung Youn, vice president and head of product management department for LG.Philips LCD says the new company is strong in the U.S. and Asia but is looking to expand its activities in Europe.

The company combines LG’s technological expertise with Philips’ established international distribution networks.
Among its many new products at the show, the company is claiming a world’s first with a 22-inch LCD flat panel with a resolution of up to 1,600 ≠1,024 at 16.7million colors.

The monitor also features a viewing angle of 160 degrees, highlighting one of the many areas where LG.Philips LCD has been developing LCD technology.
According to Youn, end-users can also expect further improvements in LCD brightness, power consumption and thinner, lighter panels in the future.

For a new company, LG.Philips has a diverse product portfolio focused across three different areas: notebook PC’s, LCD monitors and niche markets such as avionics and automotive markets.
