2001-01-14

Frontect, established in a form of a join - work corporate between LG. Philips LCD and Japanese Alps Electrical. Co. to develop TFT-LCD, was announced that it would be disorganized on July 2000 as scheduled, after harvesting some fruits. With the capital of 6.9 billions yen, the company was organized for LG. Philips LCD (then Goldstar LCD Business Headquarter) to develop TFT-LCD Array and Process Technology on the basis of Ultra Clean Technology (UCT). The proportion of both companies` equity is a half and a half (50 to 50). By the time the company was established, Frontech was the first join - work company between S. Korea and Japan and thus draw a considerable attention as an exemplary case of S. Korea-Japan Global Partnership. Engineers from the both companies and professors of Engineering Dept. of West-North Univ. got together at the central laboratory of Alps Electrical. Co. and researched for 5 years. As fruits, they developed 1) a device to form high-functional Plasma film, 2) a technology to form low resistant wiring, and 3) a technology of new wet process. Thanks to the successes of these R&D of Frontech, LG. Philips LCD was able to secure technologies necessary for LCD business and better the business in both quantity and quality.
Alps Electrical. Co. also is enjoying benefit by utilizing the results of Frontech in the sectors of various technologies and facilities. Both representatives declared in the congratulatory ceremony for the successes of Frontect R&D on Dec, 1999 that they would keep the amicable relationship after the disorganization and even expand the chance of co-development.

Terminology:
UCT (Ultra Clean Technology) - It is a technical concept that removing noise existing in the process of production can perfectly control inner parameter that has not been able to control so far.
Device to form film - a device to change raw materials into a thin film to a thickness of less than 1/1000mm at the back side of glass plate. It uses discharged energy that is in the state of vacuums to make the film that compose a thin film transistor of liquid crystal display.
Technology to Form Low resistant wiring - A technology to lower the electrical resistance of thin film wiring connecting between multiple thin film transistors formed on the glass plate.
Wet Process Technology - a technology to etch and clean with aqueous solution to process thin film transistor at the fixed pattern of figure
