LG Display Showcases its Latest, Cutting-edge Suite of LCDs at FPD China 2009

Seoul, Korea (March 11, 2009) - LG Display Co., Ltd. [NYSE:LPL, KRX:034220], a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, today announced that it will showcase its latest, cutting-edge display technologies at Flat Panel Display (FPD) China 2009 in Shanghai, China.
LG Display will showcase a wide range of high resolution and eco-friendly products tailored to the TV market in China, where the government has implemented various stimulus measures amid the worldwide recession. Especially LG Display will unveil IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels in the 17- to 26-inch range, and these small- to mid-size IPS TV panels are price competitive and boast wide viewing angles and high resolution images.
LG Display will also set up a joint booth with Chinese TV set makers Changhong, Haier, Hisense, Konka, Skyworth, and TCL. These companies collectively command over 70% of the local LCD TV market. The joint booth will be used for IPS co-promotion and showcase products by the TV set makers featuring LG Display’s TruMotion 240Hz panels.
Mr. Hyung-Seok Choi, LG Display’s vice president in charge of TV marketing, said, “LG Display formed an IPS camp with Chinese TV set makers last year and has been actively promoting IPS technology in China. We have launched high resolution and eco-friendly products tailored to local needs?aiming to provide differentiated value to Chinese consumers.”
According to the market research firm, DisplaySearch, China’s LCD TV market is expected to grow by 44.5% from 13.2 million units in 2008 to 18.9 million units in 2009.
LG Display Product Demonstration Highlights Include:
Small/Mid-Size IPS TV
LG Display will show its small- and mid-size IPS panels boasting competitive price and superior picture quality compared to TN panels
- 17-, 20-, 22-, 26- inch IPS TVs
Green TV
LG Display will also demonstrate eco-friendly LCD with fewer parts, reduced energy consumption and high resolution picture quality. Demonstration highlights include:
- World’s Lowest Power 32-inch LCD TV Panel, in which energy use is slashed by 56% compared to conventional LCD panels as a result of LG Display’s White Plus technology and Optimal Power Control (OPC) technology
- World’s Greenest 47-inch LCD TV Panel, free of arsenic and halogen in mechanical parts and PCBs
LED TV
The company will also show a wide range of LED backlit LCD with high resolution and slim design.
- World’s slimmest modular-type 47-inch LED-backlit LCD TV panel, measuring in at an impressive 8.9mm thickness
- 47-inch full HD LCD TV panel with direct-type LED backlight for enhanced picture quality
Next-Generation Display
The company will unveil its Next-generation products boasting state-of-the-art technology.
- 55-inch display for use with 3D glasses that offer differing views of objects based on the viewing angle and direction
- 1.4-inch, donut-shaped LCD?breaking the barriers of traditional rectangular LCDs for applications such as watches, cell phones and other mobile applications
- 14.1-inch privacy protection LCD for notebook PC, featuring easy viewing angle adjustments within the touch of a single button
IPS Zone
LG Display will unveil its first TruMotion 240Hz panel in China; TV sets made by local TV set makers (Changhong, Haier, Hisense, Konka, Skyworth, TCL) featuring the high driving technology will be on display.
