LG.Philips LCD Showcases its Latest TFT-LCDs and Technology Advancements at SID 2005

The company will hold a brief press conference for attending media on Tuesday, May 24, at 12:00 p.m. in the SID press room #101. All SID attendees who visit LG.Philips LCD’s booth and complete a brief survey will be entered in a drawing to win an LCD TV. The same survey can be picked up Monday evening, May 23, at the SID Business Conference Networking Reception to be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Ballroom C within the Hynes Convention Center.
Full HD LCDs in the Spotlight at SID
Debuting at SID 2005, LG.Philips LCD will unveil its 47-, 42- and 37-inch wide full high definition (HD, 1920 x 1080, 2 megapixels) TFT-LCDs for true HDTVs and multimedia displays. These displays all boast full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees, a 1600:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a maximum brightness of 600 cd/m2, an impressive gray-to-gray response time of 8 ms and a high color gamut of 90 percent for natural images. The company will also feature its 55-inch wide, full HD LCD, currently the world’s largest mass-produced LCD panel.
“There have been significant advancements to leading-edge LCD technologies recently, including our Enhanced S-IPS technology, as well as dynamic contrast and scanning backlight solutions?making LCDs an ideal solution for HDTVs,” noted Bruce Berkoff, LG.Philips LCD’s executive vice president of marketing.
Cutting Edge Technologies Seen for the First Time at SID
LG.Philips LCD will also debut several LCD prototypes featuring new technologies, including:
- 47-inch Full HD LED backlight LCD?the world’s largest LED backlight display with realistic, natural color
- 42-inch Wide XGA LCD with scanning backlight and black data insertion to reduce motion blur
- 42-inch Wide XGA 10- and 12-bit LCDs, which feature approximately 1 and 68 billion colors, respectively, for the display of true natural colors?the highest color achieved for LCDs
- 2-inch LTPS VGA LCD with IPS?the world’s highest resolution LCD for mobile applications with 403 ppi
In addition to the new technologies listed above, the company will demonstrate its hot cathode fluorescent lamp (HCFL) and “white +” enhancements for higher brightness, as well as its spotlight window technology for adjustable brightness conditions for better graphical display optimization. LG.Philips LCD will also show its “gate in panel” (GIP) technology, which integrates the gate driver ICs onto the panel.
