LG.Philips LCD Wins Equity Deal of the Year
2004-12-24
SEOUL, Korea (24 December, 2004) ? LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LPL, KSE: 034220), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, is pleased to announce that it was named by International Financing Review Asia (IFR Asia) the winner of “Equity Deal of the Year” and “South Korea Equity Deal of the Year.” Earlier this year, LG.Philips LCD succeeded in the world’s first, dual concurrent listing on the Korean and New York stock exchanges.
Published in Asia and Australia, IFR Asia is an authoritative and well-respected financial publication. Every year, IFR Asia selects corporations that have achieved outstanding results or made notable contributions in the corporate finance sector in Asia.
In its latest edition, IFR Asia said the award was given to LG.Philips LCD for being the first company in Korea to accomplish a dual concurrent listing on a Korean and US stock exchange. In the process, various Korean regulations were revised or amended to meet international market standards, resulting in considerable development of Korean financial market requirements.
In July 2004, LG.Philips LCD raised approximately one billion US dollars with its initial public offering. At the time, the simultaneous listing drew attention for its scale and for bringing about various legal changes for the first dual concurrent listing by a Korean company. This opened the door for other Korean firms seeking dual concurrent listings on Korean and international exchanges.
Upon hearing the news of the award, LG.Philips LCD CFO and President Ron H. Wirahadiraksa said, “Our successful dual concurrent listing in Korea and the US allowed us to fortify the capital structure of LG.Philips LCD. I also feel proud for having contributed to refining Korea’s financial market regulations to meet international standards.”
The IFR Asia awards ceremony is slated for 1 February, 2005, in Hong Kong.
