LG.Philips LCD's Large-Area TFT-LCD Leadership Position Re-Affirmed By iSuppli/Stanford Resources

SEOUL, South Korea, Dec. 11 -- LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a
leading innovator in thin-film-transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD)
technology, today announced that market research firm iSuppli/Stanford
Resources has named the company the market leader in the production of
large-area* TFT-LCDs for the third quarter of 2002, accounting for 19 percent
of overall unit production (iSuppli/Stanford Resources 3Q 2002 Global LCD
Supply/Demand Report, October 2002). iSuppli/Stanford Resources also
indicated that LG.Philips LCD is the undisputed leader in supplying TFT-LCDs
for desktop monitors for two years running; and currently holds a 23 percent
share of this market for the third quarter of 2002. In addition, the firm
named LG.Philips LCD as the leader in 15-inch TFT-LCDs for notebook PCs, with
26 percent share; the 15-inch size will be the fastest-growing segment of the
notebook market over the next few years.
iSuppli/Stanford Resources also
found that LG.Philips LCD had the largest glass area input capacity for the
third quarter of 2002, thanks in part to the company's first fifth-generation
TFT-LCD factory.

continued investment in increasing production capacity (450,000 square meters
per quarter), which is the largest in the industry to date. LG.Philips LCD's
manufacturing prowess has been enhanced most recently with the ramping of the
first, fifth-generation fab to 198,000 square meters per quarter. Based on
this investment, the company is well positioned to maintain its leadership
position in the desktop monitor and 15-inch notebook PC markets, and has the
capability to capture a significant share of the growing LCD TV sector," noted
Paul Semenza, executive vice president for iSuppli/Stanford Resources.
