2002-06-11
CES, LAS VEGAS, January 07, 2002 - LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of TFT LCD (thin-film transistor liquid crystal display) technology, showcases its portfolio of products for LCD TVs this week during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2002 held in Las Vegas. Specifically, the company is demonstrating its latest wide-format 17W and 30W modules ("W" for 16:10 or 16:9 wide-aspect ratio displays), as well as its 20.1-inch VGA LCD in its technology suite at the Four Seasons Hotel.
According to David E. Mentley of San Jose, Calif. based market research firm Stanford Resources iSuppli, "The LCD TV emerged this past year along with the LCD monitor market with over a 100 percent growth in units of each in 2001 (versus 2000). The LCD TV market, though small today, will exceed 7 million units by 2005 with the arrival of video-optimized LCD technology and prices compatible with the consumer market. LG.Philips LCD is the world's leading supplier of LCDs to the monitor market today with over 20 percent share in 2001, which should help them to become a leader in the growing new field of LCD TVs."
According to Bruce Berkoff, LG.Philips LCD's executive vice president of marketing, the company is committed to the LCD TV market, which has compelling advantages over other existing technologies. "LCD TVs deliver a thin, sleek, low power display with crisp & clear high resolution images,"he said.
LG.Philips LCD will be featuring the following display modules at the show:
20.1-inch [LC201V1]: Weighing in at only 3800 grams and 24 mm thick, the LC201V1 is ideal for wall-mounted LCD TV applications. Offering the best color reproduction available among competitive LCD TVs, this display provides a viewable area equivalent to a 23-inch cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor and is able to receive both analog and digital broadcasting.
17W WXGA for Desktop Monitors and PCTVs: LG.Philips LCD's new 17W display is designed for new wide-monitor formats, all-in-one PCs and personal-computer TV (PCTV) applications. This wide-format display offers 1280 x 768 resolution, 65-percent color saturation, 400cd/m2 brightness and a response time of 25 ms. Furthermore, it is extremely thin (16.2 mm) and weighs only 1,900 grams
30W WXGA for HDTVs: In an effort to meet the OEM demands for standardized LCD sizes, LG.Philips LCD will also demonstrate the 30W TFT-LCD for today's HDTV market. The 30W boasts an impressive wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, brightness of 450 cd/m2 and resolution of 1280 x 768. In addition to its large screen size and slim form factor (46 mm), this display also offers a high contrast ratio (450:1) and aspect ratio of 16:9.6.
