A Ceremony Held to Mark the Official Inception of LG.Philips LCD

LG.Philips LCD, the joint venture between LG Electronics and Royal Dutch Philips Electronics, held a ceremony to mark the partnership and C.I between the two companies in Kumi in November 1, 1999. Leveraging on the synergy effect, LG.Philips LCD aims to take top spot in the fast-growing market for next-generation flat screens. LG.Philips LCD declared our vision to become “World No. 1 LCD Company” and adopted “No.1 Members, No.1 Company” as our slogan in the ceremony. LG.Philips LCD also decided to use its common CI image meaning the “digital leader” in the display market. Leveraging on the synergy effect, Company expects sales to grow from this yea''s $2 billion to $2.4 billion in 2000 and $3.3 billion in 2001 with a plan to take top spot in the fast-growing LCD market. The ceremony was attended by residents and officials in Kumi and executives from both companies, especially Hein de Vries, the Netherlands Ambassador to Korea. LG.Philips LCD is building the third plant, capable of producing the fourth-generation 680 mm x 880 mm LCD mother glass, in Kumi. The new plant will start operating in late 2000. People believe that the new production line will help foster our leadership position in the high value-added LCD market for computer monitors and digital TV. With the theme of “Opening the new millennium together” people celebrated the joint venture company and enjoyed the celebration show of entertainers.
