Reached $200 Million of Monthly Sales First in the Industry
2001-01-14
LG Philips LCD posted a record $200 million in monthly sales during its first month after joint ventures in September. It was achieved in six months after reaching $100 million in March. Especially, with only two production lines of 370 mm x 470 mm and 590 mm x 670 mm LCD glass, it is an unprecedented record having the best production capacity per line in the world. The reasons for this achievement are as follows.
For an outside factor is the lack of supply in the market of notebooks and computer monitors due to their rapid growth (expecting lack of supply until 2001). For inside factors are maximum capacity growth by improving design and processing in the production through continuous innovation and R&D. LG.Philips LCD also achieved some technical breakthroughs in the field, including "side mounting," a technology to produce ultra-slim screens. In addition, the strong performance is also attributable to the synergy from the joint venture, which helped dramatically expand production capacity and secure a captive market for next-generation flat screens. LG.Philips LCD expects that we will take the world top after reaching $2 billion of annual sales, 400% sharp increase compared to that of the previous year. After operating our third plant in late 2000, capable of producing the fourth-generation 680 mm x 880 mm LCD mother glass, LG.Philips LCD also expects that the new production line will help foster our leadership position in the high value-added LCD market.
