Seoul, Korea (Jan. 4, 2015) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, will showcase the latest advances in the industry, including its global leadership in OLED technology, during CES 2015 in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.

LG Display will introduce its cutting-edge technologies and products under the theme of “Leading Technology, Great Design & Picture Quality, and Differentiation” in its private showroom at the Bellagio Hotel.  With the slogan ‘LGD Always with You,’ the company will emphasize its dedication to offering the best technology and products to customers.

To highlight its commitment to the superior qualities of OLED, LG Display will have a separate OLED zone within the showroom and demonstrate the benefits and the advantages of the technology to customers.  The company’s exclusive WRGB-based OLED panel technology boasts unsurpassed picture quality, achieving perfect black levels.  The technology is optimized for curved designs since it prevents light leakage as it does not use backlight units and liquid crystals found in LCD panels.

“We have been offering customers successful solutions based on differentiated technology and we will continue our efforts in providing win-win solutions for customers in 2015,” said Sang-Beom Han, CEO of LG Display.  “LG Display will further strengthen partnerships with customers to make 2015 the breakout year for OLED TVs.”

LG Display will introduce 55-inch Ultra HD curved OLED panel for TVs at the CES for the first time, as well as various sizes of Ultra HD OLED displays including 65-inch curved and 77-inch variable panels.

During CES, LG Display will also introduce new Ultra HD LCD displays for TVs employing fresh designs and improved picture quality based on IPS technology to provide differentiated value to customers, maintaining its leadership in the Ultra HD market.  It will showcase its ultra-light and thin Art Slim series of 55- and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels for TVs and 23- and 23.8-inch Full HD panels for monitors, while introducing a 65-inch Ultra HD panel with Wide Color Gamut (WCG) and a 98-inch Quad Ultra HD panel with 7,680 x 4,320 resolutions that is four times sharper than Ultra HD.

  • PR LG Display Introduces the Art Slim LCD TV Panel Series

Seoul, Korea (Dec. 29, 2014) – LG Displaywill unveil the ‘Art Slim’ series for LCD TV panels at CES 2015.  With this new series featuring ultra slim thickness and light weight, the company will continue to strengthen its leading position in the global LCD market by enabling consumers to enjoy enhanced design quality of the TVs.

“Design will be the next key factor in the display market as attention shifts from a focus on picture quality to the attractiveness of display designs,” said Yong-Kee Hwang, Executive Vice President and Head of the TV Business Unit at LG Display.  “With differentiated designs and technologies, LG Display will make continuous efforts to give added value to customers and lead the global display market.”

During CES, LG Display will showcase 55-inch and 65-inch ‘Art Slim’ TVs with a thickness of 7.5mm and 8.2mm respectively.  Considering that the average thickness of a 55-inch LCD TV is around 30mm, this represents a remarkable 75% reduction to smart phone proportions.  In addition, the 55-inch and 65-inch models weigh 10.4kg and 16.2kg respectively, representing a reduction of more than 25% from conventional products.

In the anticipation that design differentiation will be the next crucial factor on top of technology differentiation in the LCD TV market, LG Display is committed to introducing a series of innovative design products based on extreme thinness and light weight.

LG Display’s ‘Art Slim’ product is the result of innovations in the mechanical structure that involve converting the back cover of the LCD module into the rear cover of the complete TV set, as well as a new method in attaching the rear cover to the panel based on conventional narrow bezel technology by minimizing the bezel width.  LG Display has adopted the use of aluminum composite materials for the back cover of the LCD module that helps increases its rigidity while offering customized designs by employing various colors and patterns in the cover.  The company is able to further customize the design by using different composite materials for the back cover according to the customer’s product line-up.

“LG Display’s differentiated technology is always based on customer value,” said Yong-Kee Hwang, Executive Vice President and Head of the TV Business Unit at LG Display.  “The idea of the ‘Art Slim’ technology incorporates how display requirements are seen from the customer’s perspective.”

LG Display started supplying ‘Art Slim’ products to its customers in China and plans to expand a full line-up in the 49-inch to 65-inch size range from 2015.

  • PR LG Display Develops World’s Narrowest 0.7mm Bezel FHD LCD Panel for Smartphones

LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it has developed a 5.3-inch Full HD LCD panel for smartphones with the world’s narrowest bezel at 0.7mm. With this cutting-edge display, LG Display continues to lead the market in high-resolution large-size displays for mobile devices.

“With the growing trend for large screen smartphones, customer demand for displays with a narrow bezel is increasing, because it enables users to enjoy the maximum use of screen area without compromising excellent grip and design,” said Byeong-koo Kim, Vice President and Head of IT/Mobile Development Group at LG Display. “With this innovative product having many advantages, ranging from its narrow 0.7mm bezel and high resolution picture quality to its slim design and touch-embedded solutions, LG Display will continue to lead the growing market for large screen smartphones, meeting the expectations of customers and users by enhancing the quality of devices,” said Mr. Kim.

To realize the 0.7mm bezel width on the left and right sides of the panel, which is narrower than the 0.8mm thickness of a credit card, LG Display used its “Neo Edge” module processing technology and the world’s first “Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT)” technology.

LG Display’s Neo Edge technology uses an adhesive instead of double-sided tape to attach and completely seal the total area and edges of the panel’s circuit board and backlight unit. Because there is no plastic guide panel to attach the panel and backlight, the Neo Edge technology helps achieve minimal bezel width, while blocking light leakage and being waterproof and dustproof.

The adhesive seal also prevents corrosion that sometimes occurs along the edge of the glass panel when double-sided tape is used, while dramatically improving the panel’s durability despite the narrow bezel because of increased elasticity as the adhesive hardens.

The company’s AIT technology, exclusively developed by LG Display, reduces the need for bezel space because the touch panel is embedded into the LCD module. The technology offers a slim design and excellent touch, while saving costs since a separate process for touch functions is not required.

LG Display will start mass production of the product in November and supply it first to customers in China, where demand for large screen smartphones is strong, while actively promoting it globally.
