2001-09-03
SEOUL, South Korea, August 27, 2001 - LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, today announced the world''''s first 18.1-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD using their patented narrow-bezel technology - the LM181E05.
"The company''''s narrow-bezel form factor technology, having been extended from notebook PCs to the desktop arena, enables consumers to have even slimmer and sexier desktop monitors," said Bruce Berkoff, the executive vice president of marketing at LG.Philips LCD.
Market research firm DisplaySearch (Austin, Texas) predicts that TFT-LCD monitors will enjoy a 104 percent unit growth this year alone (from 6.9 million units to 14 million units) and will grow to more than 46 million units worldwide by 2005.
The LM181E05 utilizes LG.Philips LCD''''s patented side-mounting technology (shifting screws from the front to the side) making possible the competitively slimmer and compact design. Using in-plane switching technology (IPS), the LM181E05 boasts a 160-degree viewing angle, high luminance of 250 cd/㎡, a color saturation of 62 percent, a contrast ratio of 350:1 and a response time of 50 ms. Furthermore, it is only 27 mm thick and weighs just 3.1 kg.
The company plans to begin volume production of the LM181E05 this month at LG.Philips LCD''''s Fab 3 in Kumi, Korea, the world''''s first fourth generation Fab, at 680 mm x 880 mm, which opened April 2000.
