Reduce water consumption and increase recycling

LG Display conducts preemptive efforts to secure stable water resources by evaluating water resource-related risks through analysis of the entire water use process and establishing response strategies. In order to proactively respond to global water scarcity issues, LG Display has established a target for reuse rate and to achieve this goal, it is reducing water consumption through process improvement and continuously investing in wastewater reuse facilities. Furthermore, LG Display has contributed to the protection of water resources by carrying out projects for reuse of treated sewage water jointly with local communities.

Reduction of waste generation and maximization of resource circulation

LG Display has developed and is operating its own system to monitor the entire process from generation to disposal in real time, which is linked to the 'Allbaro System' operated by the Korea Environment Corporation to ensure transparency in the entire waste process. In addition, LG Display signed an MOU for the 'resource circulation performance management pilot project' promoted by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation and maximized recycling through improvement of waste discharge, storage and transport processes and development of treatment technology, which allows the company to respond preemptively to the 'Framework Act on Resource Circulation' become effective since 2008..

LG Display achieved 100% recycling rate of waste glass by developing and applying film separation technology for waste glass, which had been completely landfilled due to film attached to waste glass. In addition, LG Display not only reduced the amount of waste acid generated by minimizing the amount of chemical solution through improvement of the manufacturing process, but also found a history that possesses low-concentration waste acid recycling technology and recycles low-concentration waste acid to establish a sustainable resource circulation system. Moreover, the company utilizes various recycling technologies, such as increasing the added value of waste resources by developing pulp recycling technology and protective film (PET) fiber raw material technology, and securing resources by developing a copper recovery system contained in wastewater sludge. This maximizes resource circulation and generates profits through the sale of waste resources.

    • Separate and store waste according to recyclability, combustibility or non-combustibility by type, nature and condition
    • Compliance with legal storage standards and duration depending on the type of waste
  3. Waste treatment and performance reporting
    • legitimate waste consignment treatment according to the type of waste
    • Manage and report waste treatment performance once a month
  4. Management of consigned waste disposal companies
    • Establish an annual evaluation plan for consigned waste treatment companies and conduct regular evaluations (on-site evaluation, document evaluation)
    • Request for corrective action and follow-up management in case of nonconformity
  5. Record management
    • Record the entire waste process through the Allbaro system (discharge, collection/transport, recycling, disposal, etc.)
