Through this competition, the company expects to uncover new and innovative designs showcasing OLED technology in unique, practical ways to enable people to enjoy the benefits of OLED in their daily lives, thereby strengthening its leading market position.

Under the theme, ‘OLED displays that provide new experiences and enhance people’s changing lives,’ LG Display is seeking innovative entries that cleverly demonstrate the creativity and potential of its OLED and Transparent OLED displays – ranging from 20 to 50 inches – when it comes to enriching people’s everyday lives. Participants can submit their entries starting from Oct. 27 to Dec. 20 UK time at Dezeen’s official website of https://www.dezeen.com/oledsgo-competition-entry-form. The competition is free to enter for anyone over the age of 18 in any country around the world, with a top prize of 35,000 euros and total prize money of 88,000 euros. Entrants are free to design any product for any user or demographic around the world.

LG Display will mark every entry based on its carefully designed criteria – which cover aspects such as innovation, design aesthetics, practicality and lifestyle-enhancing functionality – before choosing a shortlist which is to be published on Dezeen in February 2022, announcing the finalists in March 2022 and the winners in May 2022. The company will review the winning designs according to their commercial feasibility and market potential before being considered for a new project that could potentially put them into the market.

Last year’s OLEDs Go! global design competition, the first round of its kind, marked an overwhelming success, receiving a strong flow of fresh and unique ideas from a total of 220 design experts across 50 countries. Among the hundreds of creative and inspiring designs, the top 5 entries evaluated to have best depicted a bright future with OLED were announced.

Through the OLEDs Go! competition, LG Display aims to discover fresh ways to utilize OLED, a technology able to realize paper-thin, transparent designs and design flexibility including curved and rollable, as well as provide exceptional eye-comfortable and environmental benefits.      ▪ EBITDA in the third quarter of 2021 was KRW 1,696 billion, compared with EBITDA of KRW 1,228 billion in the third quarter of 2020 and with EBITDA of KRW 1,770 billion in the second quarter of 2021.

     ▪ Net income in the third quarter of 2021 was KRW 463 billion, compared with the net income of KRW 11 billion in the third quarter of 2020 and with the net income of KRW 424 billion in the second quarter of 2021.

LG Display registered KRW 7,223 billion in revenues and KRW 529 billion in operating profit in the third quarter of 2021.

LG Display saw a year-on-year increase of 7% in revenues and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 4%, thanks to the increased shipments of its panels for IT products. The company’s year-on-year operating profit increased by 222%, however, its quarter-on-quarter operating profit decreased by 25% due to falling LCD TV panel prices, an increase in material costs due to the industry’s component shortage, and an increase in costs from the ramp-up of new facilities.

Panels for IT devices accounted for 45% of the revenues, panels for TVs accounted for 32%, and panels for mobile devices accounted for 23%.

LG Display’s large-sized OLED business continued to strengthen its position in the market as the premium TV sector continues to grow. In this regard, the company expects to achieve the annual sales goal of 8 million OLED panels and record annual profit this year. LG Display also saw stable results in the LCD business sector based on its differentiated high-end products and technology along with strengthened partnerships with strategic customers, as it shifted its LCD business structure to focus on the IT sector
    which helped minimize market fluctuation.

The panel shipments in the fourth quarter are expected to increase by mid-10% compared to the third quarter, with the delayed shipments affected by the industry’s component shortage predicted to return to normal. While the prices of LCD TV panels are expected to remain on a downward trend, ASP (Average Selling Prices) per square meter is expected to slightly rise thanks to an increase in shipments of mobile products with higher ASP.

"LG Display has successfully managed to build the stable business structure that helps it minimize market fluctuation while generating profits by pre-emptively shifting capacity toward competitive IT products and strengthening cooperative partnerships with strategic customers,” said Suh Dong-hee, CFO and Senior Vice President of LG Display. “Based on this, we will continue to generate profits through differentiated IT and Commercial products down the road.”

He also added, “The global TV market is actually showing signs of polarization due to the expansion of the high-end TV market, though it is seemingly getting smaller. It is predicted that OLED TV sales will continue to grow with the rise of high-quality content and consequently consumers’ increasing willingness to spend more on high performance TVs.”

  • PR LG Display’s OLED TV Panels Earn Global Gaming Certifications from UK and Germany

SEOUL, Korea (October 7, 2021) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it has received global gaming certifications based on the exceptional performance and quality of its OLED TV displays.

The entire OLED TV display lineup – which ranges from 48 to 88 inches – earned the Qualified Superior Gaming Performance certification from British certification company Intertek as well as the High Gaming Performance Gold certification from highly reputable German inspection service TÜV Rheinland, making it the first display company to simultaneously receive certificates from both the U.K and Germany.

When it comes to gaming TVs, smooth, clear and undisrupted images for the fastest on-screen action are essential, which means the response time that measures the time it takes to show the graphic card's signal on the screen is one of the most important performance aspects. Moreover, a rapid response time reduces input lag – the delay time for gaming signals to show up on the screen.

According to Intertek’s test results, the company’s OLED TV panels are the fastest display available today with a fast response time of less than 0.1 ms (0.0001 seconds) based on GTG (Gray to Gray) measurement method. In addition, OLED is found to be inverse ghosting free – an issue commonly seen on LCD displays where previous image frames linger because they are simply too fast for the LCD displays to handle.
Meanwhile, TÜV Rheinland comprehensively measured the innovative OLED panels’ capabilities which include testing on refresh rates, GTG response time, motion blur and color gamut, and afterwards rewarded OLED TV displays with their High Gaming Performance Gold status, the highest gaming performance certification to date.

Self-emissive by nature, OLED displays provide the perfect screen for console gamers or high-end PC users for gaming through an overwhelming performance built on clear and vibrant image quality, a fast response time, a refresh rate of 120 frames per second, and a wide variable refresh rate of 40 to 120 Hz.

Moreover, LG Display’s OLED boasts the lowest level of blue light emissions in the industry, allowing gamers to play comfortably during long gaming sessions without experiencing side effects like eye fatigue. The company’s OLED displays also marks the world’s first Eyesafe® certified TV display to meet requirements from Eyesafe, a U.S-based eye protection certification agency, for low emissions of blue light and optimal color performance.

“With its OLED technology, LG Display will create a differentiated gaming environment, thereby enabling gamers all over the world to enjoy unmatched picture quality and performance when playing their favorite games," said Oh Chang-ho, Executive Vice President & Head of the TV Business Unit at LG Display.

PR LG Display Teams Up with Kakao Mobility to Enable Smart Parking Lot with its Transparent OLED Technology

SEOUL, Korea (Sep. 13, 2021) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, today announced its new partnership with Kakao Mobility, a Korean mobility platform company, to build a smart parking lot in Seoul, Korea, equipped with the company’s advanced Transparent OLED displays.

Through LG Display’s cutting-edge Transparent OLED technology, the two companies hope to create a differentiated parking service that not only provides convenience to visitors, but unique experiences that make a deep impression. Located in the busy Gangnam district of Seoul, the Trade Tower is a landmark of the city with more than 40 million people visiting it every year.

LG Display’s Transparent OLED panels are to be installed at the parking lot’s six main entrances to the Trade Tower’s shops. The panels, which are set to cover the existing glass walls, will provide striking spatial interior effects without compromising space or distracting visitors. Moreover, people using the parking lot will be able to interact with these new displays and enjoy a wide array of entertaining content. With the installment of these displays, these unique panels add a vibrant and futuristic feel to an otherwise ordinary parking garage.

LG Display has been utilizing 55-inch Transparent OLED displays for commercial purposes since 2019. The display’s self-emissive nature and no backlight allow 40 percent transparency along with a thin, lightweight and flexible design. With Transparent OLED displays already successfully installed as shop and subway train windows and across multiple signage forms, LG Display plans to expand the role of this groundbreaking panel display to important sectors such as autonomous cars, aircrafts, and even home furniture in the future.

“LG Display will continue to redefine the concept of spatial design with its industry-leading Transparent OLED by delivering key information and entertaining content to passersby with a difference,” said Cho Min-Woo, head of the Transparent OLED business at LG Display.
