IPS is a technology of wide field of view. Based on the principle that liquid crystal polymer runs horizontally, it has a good viewing angle and a fast response speed.
Particularly, IPS of LG Display implements great picture quality undoubtedly from any angles within 179° range of right and left sides, and using copper with low resistance as wiring, it shows the sophisticated display products favorable for fast driving such as full HD 120Hz.
The liquid crystal driving is divided into three methods such as TN, VA and IPS. Among them, TN method gets contrast ratio according that light passes through the liquid display based on its alignment. TN method doesn't show the screen well when the liquid crystal is not aligned into the directions or angles you want. It has color transfer from the viewing angle and it has some problems such as afterimage remaining in the fast video. VA (Vertical alignment) and IPS (In-Plane Switching) were developed to improve the narrow viewing angle of TN.
VA is made after the liquid crystal polymer is aligned into the vertical direction and has film added to correct the viewing angle, where IPS is made for revolving the liquid crystal polymer at the same place as it cannot be placed within the LCD panel. As a result, IPS will give you a clearer image from any angles.
